I'm not sure if you were looking for input (and its obviously your right not to since you seem to be volunteering) but did you wanna expand on the "ratings based sliding scale entry fee one division" idea? Alternatively you could offer up what you are willing to do if you have to run it yourself and a second option if someone is willing to take care of certain stuff for you and see if anyone volunteers. I don't personally expect to be around for Animalfest next year but I'd guess there might be people willing to volunteer to take care of certain tasks if they knew what they were in advance. Along those lines, thanks for getting this started early this year.

Another important question that might help solve your problem is figuring out whether the Oasis would be included in Animalfest or a separate tourney. If the Oasis is included J or D or B might be able to help you out a bunch. My bad if this has already been worked out and I missed it

Craig,

Just one man's opinion(s)...

1. Thanks for being a volunteer.
2. You're smart to "send up a flare" so early (10 months).
3. Any tournament is better (for the dg peeps) than no tournament.
4. If it's an "Animal Fest", whatever you decide, it MUST contain at least 1 round on the b-b.
5. Depending on how many other tournaments the Skylands people plan on running in '12, you should be able to 'dig up' help from the masses. Unless dilution is affecting things (then too many (well intended) tournaments will spoil each at least a bit).
6. While the "1 round on each layout" format is wicked-good, if the actual days of is what's killing you, then maybe a 3-rounder over the 2 days (where the Animal is the only Sun round to be played) is better.
7. If the logistics pre- and post- actual play is the problem, a totally different story.
8. Or some variation of like I've seen them do in EU...start the second day like at 8am (people will grump because it slices into their hangover recovery time...but, hey, you're the TD - YOU'RE THE BOSS).

Ok, it's official:

Animalfest will be two weekends this year.

Am divisions will be September 29-30
Pro divisions will be in October

Each will feature all four Warwick courses.

I will TD the Am side, Cuts will TD the pro side

Lots to still be decided.

nice, Greg can you start a seperate thread for the AM side? That way you cant edit as the year goes on.

CFR DISCS?????

Very popular last year.... AVIARS AND FIREBIRDS

Not very popluar: Wraiths and Sidewinders..

So what do people want to see this year?

Im thinking a Mid range and a Destroyer?

It looks like some of us are going to get together after league on Wednesday to start planning for Animalfest. We're really wanting to get the club more involved this year, so please think about attending this meeting and getting involved.

Running this as two weekends is going to make it awesome, but it's also means we need more people involved.

We need artwork for a stamp.
We need to plan a player's party.
We need ideas and volunteers.

Let's make this an amazing Am experience and an incredible Pro experience a few weeks later!

I have a couple guys in Flint who do some sick designs who may be interested in doing that for the tourney. Not sure how many Skylands Artists there are, but these guys are pretty good. Let me know.

I talked to Tom F. a while back and where we left off he is planning on doing the design for the flyer. Not sure if he's planning on doing a disc stamp but you might want to check with him too.

i have a guy interested in designing the discs if you still dont have anyone doing it yet. he does some pretty sweet stuff. Let me know, and if there is anything in particular that needs to be incorporated into the design. Also, do the AM and Pro need different designs or separate?

So we are throwing around some ideas for Animalfest Pro Weekend:

Option 1 idea:

$ 100 Pro Open
$ 80 Pro Master
$ 70 Grandmasters

Option 2 Idea:

Sliding Scale Ratings Based:

Pro-Open

980 + = $ 100
950-979 = $ 85
920-949 = $ 70
<919 = $ 60

Pro Grandmasters

$ 70

Opinions? This is the Seneca formula. It eliminates Masters but encourages a larger pro field, deeper payouts, etc.

I guess there are pros and cons to both options. Option 1 seems like there would be more money. But might put ppl with a lower rating saying I'm not playing for 100 bucks. Option 2 seems like less money but more ppl will sign up which might even out the money. I guess the question is do we think it will fill at 100 bucks a person if so leave it that way. If we don't think it will fill option 2 might be better. I like option 2 cause I suck and would only have to pay 50 bucks. But I'm still going to play even if its a $100.

I think the sliding scale would be a great idea.

With 72 open spots, I don't think pro side will fill with just pros. More ams might play just for the fun of it if it was affordable. Filling the rest of the tournament with lower ranked players paying less money would be good for the finances of the tournament, kinda like how airlines and hotels sell rooms last minute, preferring to earn less money instead of no money.

maybe open registration for lower rated players later, to make sure no real pros are shut out, just to be safe?

As a 930 rated player that isn't nearly old enough to play in masters I fully support the sliding scale. I would personally be much more likely to play at a discount price. And like Greg said, it would be good if registration was delayed for the people that want to pay less than $100 to get in.

I like the sliding scale but only if you need to boost attendance; otherwise, why discount the pot. On the flip side I do not like eliminating the master division. Why not offer sliding scale for this as well? Maybe convert to sliding scale the last week or two if sign up is an issue. I would hate to see players not play because master division is not available.

We did some in depth mach calculations based on both formats. At first glance you would think that sliding scale helps tournament finances. But its really a wash. This year was my first year playing Seneca A Tier. They use a sliding scale. Player ratings determine entry fee and they eliminate Masters. Their reason being, "whats the difference between a 980 rated 35 year old and a 980 rated 45 year old"?. Seneca also does not offer AM divisions for their major event. The sliding scale is used to encourage lower rated players to play in their premier event. Since we are offering a completely seperate AM weekend, everyone in every skill level will get to play Animalfest. Looks like we will just stick to the traditional format.

$ 100 Open
$ 80 Pro Master
$ 70 GM
$ 60 Women

I am also trying to coordinate a Wolfe Woods monthly for Intermediate and Advanced divisions. Sunday Oct 21st. 12 pm. Hopefully some of the monthly players would stick around and watch the final pro groups finish. Gallery. I think we might do a trickle start B-B Sunday afternoon. Top 3 Pro Groups.

I am making the gametime decision to play in Animalfest!!! See everyone in the morning! So excited to play Warwick, haven't been out there in forever.

I see you are no longer taking paypal, but if there is any type of cashless prereg list please add Anthony Bee to MPO. I'll try to get there by 8:00 hopefully but I have a pretty long drive...

Hey guys, was there any photography action going on for either Am or Pro Animalfest this year? I have all of the photographs from the past 2 years, would like to have the 2012 files if there are any.
